Windows 11 Mandatory Upgrade

November 18, 2024

Microsoft will no longer support or provide security updates for Windows 10 starting in October 2025. This means all employee PCs must be updated to Windows 11 before next October. Any employee PC that is not running Windows 11 by then will not be allowed to connect to any ISU secure services protected by Duo.

Older computers on campus may not be able to upgrade. While ITS has been working to inventory ISU’s older computers, we encourage you to upgrade your computer now to see if it can handle the upgrade. Follow these step-by step-instructions, and contact the ITS Service Desk if you run into any problems.

If your PC cannot upgrade to Windows 11, you may need a newer computer. ITS has completed negotiations for special vendor pricing for replacement computers, but all purchases need to go through your department’s Account Director. Let them know that your computer may need to be upgraded, and work with them to get a plan in place to replace your computer before next fall. They should work with the College System Administrator with any questions regarding what to purchase. If your area does not have a System Administrator or Dean, work with  Randy Jones in Purchasing.

If you have questions about this upgrade requirement, please contact the Service Desk for more information at x4357 or help@isu.edu.
