Todd Johnson Named Fall CPI Supervisor of the Semester
November 11, 2024
Todd Johnson has been named the Fall 2024 CPI Supervisor of the Semester.
Johnson is the director of the Veteran Student Service Center (VSSC) at Idaho State University. At the VSSC, Johnson and his team provide advocacy, academic and social support, and resources to ensure the success of veterans and military-connected students in their academic pursuits.
Johnson has been a longtime champion of the CPI program, mentoring and supervising many interns over the years.
“The best part about being a CPI supervisor is watching a student veteran use their military leadership skills to serve their fellow student Veterans,” said Johnson. “Our current CPI was selected by the Idaho Division of Veteran Services (IDVS) to be one of only eight Veterans in the State of Idaho to participate in an extensive and prestigious Veteran-to-Veteran Training program, which now acts as the foundation for the Veteran Peer Advocate program here at ISU.”
Johnson was nominated by his intern, Marlon Thomas, a psychology major and veteran. In addition to leading the Veteran Peer Advocate program for ISU, Thomas also helped organize the Homeless Stand Down, an event aimed at bringing awareness to the growing homeless issue and assisting those who have found themselves in a homeless situation.
"Since being here I've grown so much through Mr. Todd’s mentorship and guidance,” Thomas said. “Everything that I have done and continue to do here under his mentorship has pushed me into becoming a better person and also helped me move closer to my dreams.”
Johnson has dedicated his career to supporting veterans in their transition to higher education. His fascination with the military began during the Vietnam War, leading him to participate in the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) in high school before joining the U.S. Army as an Infantryman upon graduation. After his military service, Johnson earned a degree is Psychology and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education from the University of Colorado.
The Fall 2024 CPI Supervisor of the Semester award also included five runners up:
- Carolin Glendenning – ISU Idaho Falls Student Services & Financial Aid
- Meg Holmes – ISU School of Performing Arts
- Ed Isla – ISU Facilities
- Brad Puckett – ISU Athletic Advising.
Operating in its thirteenth year, the CPI program provides approximately 900 paid internship opportunities annually to ISU students, and has provided 11,000+ individual internships in that time. CPI internships provide career-related experiences to help students confirm their academic pursuits, gain valuable work experience, and prepare them for life after graduation.
