Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and Dean of Students Office Website Updates
September 3, 2024
The Dean of Students Office has been working on updating their documents, forms, and website for the past year. We are excited to share these updated, reorganized, and student-friendly resources. The biggest changes include the following:
Student Handbook
We have eliminated the old Student Handbook. We have found that students are no longer interested in reading through a 30-page document to find important information. They are far more likely to go to a website or Google search to find what they seek. Additionally, we found that most of the content in the old handbook was “owned” by other offices and departments, which have more updated information on their websites. We were running into issues with conflicting information between the static handbook and the live websites, leading to confusion and frustration for our students. The small percentage of information in the old handbook that doesn’t exist on any other website has been relocated to the Dean of Students website.
Student Code of Conduct
This past spring, we worked with a fabulous committee to examine our Student Code of Conduct to ensure it is useful and understandable for our students. Based on this work, we have an updated Student Code of Conduct that is shorter, includes more student-friendly language, and has a slightly reorganized structure to make it easier to find information. You can see the updated Student Code of Conduct on our website.
Website
The Dean of Students website has also been updated and reorganized; additional content has been added. We will continue to make minor tweaks and provide additional resources to our website this fall semester, so if you have ideas that might be helpful, please contact us to share your thoughts. We want our website to be a valuable resource for students, staff, and faculty!
If your department references the Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, or our website in any of your materials, please update the links or information to help students access the correct information. If you are unsure where to link your information or how to phrase the changes, please feel free to reach out to Felice at feliceotero@isu.edu.
