Idaho State University's Institute of Rural Health is proud to present several community events as part of their September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance Program AmeriCorps grant. All events are free to the public, family friendly, and will honor those affected by the events of 9/11, as well as aiming to strengthen community ties and promote service in our community.
Sat. 9/7/24: Disaster Preparedness Fair at ISU's Pond Student Union Ballroom, 12 - 3 p.m.
Community members will have the opportunity to learn about disaster preparedness, mitigation, and recovery from local organizations. The first 300 community members will receive a 72-hour kit (one per family) as well as instructions to help build a more robust emergency preparedness kit for their family.
Mon. 9/9/24: 9/11 Kick Off Event, ISU Quad outside Graveley Hall, 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Community members are invited to help kick off the week of 9/11 Remembrance Events by learning about what activities will be going on during the week. This event will start with a speaker from the grant and Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad. Participants can take this time to sign up for events, learn about other events in the community that week, and participate in a community service project.
Tues. 9/10/24: Companion Club events, ISU Ballroom, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2 - 4:30 p.m.
Morning event: Volunteers will be putting together Senior Care Kits which include a homemade card, a puzzle book or coloring book, a pen or colored pencils, 988 cards, a fidget blanket, and a bookmark all packaged in a decorated bag for the senior Companion Club attendees.

First responders are invited to complete the climb in full gear. The climb will start off with a small speech given by a local hero and a patriotic song by a local artist. Every climber will take a memorial card representing someone whose life was lost on that day so they can climb with the attendee.
Thur. 9/12/24: Harvest Heroes, location and time TBA
Attendees are invited to come learn from local farmers, greenhouses, and knowledgeable community members about growing, storing, and preparing their own food.
Fri. 9/13/24: Hero Fun Run, ISU Quad/under Hypostyle, 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Attendees are invited to start their 5K journey under the Hypostyle on ISU's Quad where they will then run, walk, hop, or scooter their way through the local cemetery.
