Meridian Area September 11th Events Hosted by Institute of Rural Health and Americorps

Idaho State University's Institute of Rural Health is proud to present several community events in Boise and Meridian as part of their September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance Program AmeriCorps grant. All events are free to the public, family friendly, and will honor those affected by the events of 9/11, as well as aiming to strengthen community ties and promote service in our community.
Sat. 9/7/24: 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, JUMP-Boise, 1000 W Myrtle St, Boise, ID 83702, 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Attendees are invited to climb 110 flights of stairs with their local first responders to honor those whose lives were lost on 9/11. First responders are invited to complete the climb in full gear. The climb will start off with a small speech given by a local hero and a patriotic song by a local artist. Every climber will take a memorial card representing someone whose life was lost on that day so they can climb with the attendee. The first 100 attendees will receive t-shirts.
Tue. 9/24/24: Microgreens Class, ISU Meridian Campus Room 681, 5:30-7 p.m.
Attendees will learn about growing, storing, and preparing their own microgreens at home.
Wed. 9/25/24: Harvest Heroes, Meridian Idaho Food Bank, 3630 E. Commercial Court, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Roots and Reserves classes including canning, how to grow microgreens, planning and planting a garden, and growing herbs. Community members are invited to learn how to grow and store food in an effort to help with food insecurity.
Thurs. 9/26/24: Disaster Preparedness Fair, Boise Library, 715 S. Capitol, 5 - 7:30 p.m.
Community members visit each booth to put together their 72 hour kits and learn about the resources in their community as well as tips and tricks on ways to prepare yourself for disaster. The first 300 attendees will receive one free 72 hour kit per family.
Thurs. 9/26/24: Microgreens class, Victory Gardens at 120 E. Victory Rd in Meridian, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Attendees will learn about growing, storing, and preparing their own microgreens at home.
Fri. 9/27/24: Companion Club, Idaho State Veterans Home, 320 Collins Rd in Boise, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Through the Idaho State Veterans Home we will work with the Adopt a Veteran program. This provides one on one interaction with senior veterans. Volunteers will receive information on the veteran they spend time with and do an activity the veteran enjoys. Volunteers will rotate, spending time with different veterans and allowing the veterans to meet several volunteers.
