ISU United Way Campaign Committee Members Share Their “Why”
October 3, 2024
The 68th Annual Idaho State University United Way Workplace Campaign runs now through October 31, with donations accepted through the end of the 2024 calendar year.
There are many events scheduled at each campus location from sweet treats, a chance to warm up with chili or soup, hiking, or bowling in your favorite costume, all while supporting the United Way. Visit the ISU United Way Workplace Campaign website for details.
Across the nation, United Way is dedicated to building powerful partnerships that improve outcomes for children, families, and individuals in need. The United Way works with strongly aligned community organizations, such as ISU, to provide support in these three pillars for success: health, education and financial stability. The focus for United Way of Southeastern Idaho is in serving members of the ALICE population, who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, some of whom are our fellow ISU employees and students.
During the campaign, employee contributions, large or small, help make a powerful impact in providing opportunities for ALICE families, who despite working hard, are struggling to make ends meet. These families are often just one crisis away from being unable to pay rent, or being forced to choose between food or paying the bills each month.
You can donate through a payroll deduction, starting the first paycheck in January, or by mailing a check to your local United Way using the electronic donation form.
We support all of our employees and their personal choices in charitable giving. The annual ISU United Way Campaign is one optional pathway for you to make a contribution to your charity of preference, but you are under no obligation to do so. All donations will be funneled to the United Way in your area!
After over 68 years of participating in the annual workplace campaign with the United Way, Idaho State University has recently formed a campaign committee to host educational and informational events for the ISU campus community. We asked the campaign committee what services, agencies, and United Way partners they love to support, and here are some of the responses.

New Day Products and Resources |
New Day helps community members with disabilities find employment and access to resources. Their employees are hard workers who exude positivity. Great for those employed, great for our community. |
Robin Nelson |
Bannock Youth Foundation |
I support all the great agencies that UW invests in - but I have a special place in my heart for Bannock Youth Foundation as I learned so much from their Nurturing Parents Development and their playgroup program! |
Jessy Sears |
Idaho Food Bank's Back Pack Program |
I have always loved and supported the Idaho Food Bank, but with the cost of groceries today, their organization is needed more than ever! When I donate or volunteer my time at the foodbank, I know it helps Idahoans. Plus, with their widespread network of distribution partners, even most rural communities can get the help they need. I am especially grateful for their Backpack Program. Each Friday during the school year, kids in need are provided with nutritious and kid-friendly meals. This is such an amazing way to help kids who rely on the school each day for their meals. |

ISU Benny's Pantry |
Food pantry support in underserved communities plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity, providing access to nutritious meals for those in the campus community facing economic hardships. Food pantries help bridge the gap where access to affordable, healthy food is limited, while improving overall well-being and reducing hunger. By offering essential resources, food pantries cultivate stronger, healthier and happier communities. |
Kristine McCarty |
The Idaho Foodbank/Backpack Program |
Growing up, my mom & I struggled -- it was often a question of "do we buy food this month or pay rent?" The Idaho Foodbank was there for us when we needed help the most. |
Tracy Collum |
Boys & Girls Club & Backpack Program with the Idaho FoodBank |
Services to help kids remain fed and read are areas I love to support. I'm a firm believer in supporting kids in their early years to be confident and competent teens and adults later in life. |
Lee Ann Waldron |
Food Backpacks, Benny's Pantry and Idaho Foodbank |
I love helping provide nutritious foods for kids and adults who rely on it. I previously received a very impactful scholarship from United Way that allowed me to attend college while relieving some of the financial burden. |
