Idaho State University Hosts Hispanic Film Festival in Celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month

Idaho State University (ISU) is excited to announce its first Hispanic Film Festival during National Hispanic Heritage Month.

This Spanish Film Club series was made possible with the support of Pragda, SPAIN arts & culture, and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain. It will showcase five thought-provoking films from across the Hispanic world at the Bengal Theater throughout October. The festival is free and open to the ISU and Pocatello community.

“This festival is a celebration of Hispanic culture, language, and storytelling, and we are thrilled to bring this event to the ISU and Pocatello community,” says event organizer, Dr. Eduardo Villalobos, assistant professor of Spanish at ISU. “With both in-person and online options, we’re ensuring that this important cultural event reaches as wide an audience as possible.”

Each film will be presented in Spanish, indigenous languages, or Catalan, with English subtitles, offering a rich cultural experience for all attendees.

October 8: Luchadoras
October 15: Alegría
October 22: The Good Boss
October 29: 7 Reasons to Run Away (from Society)

Alegría: Available from October 16-22
The Good Boss: Available from October 23-29

About the Films:
Sun and Daughter (Sol y Hija)
A touching documentary exploring the life of a father and daughter in rural Spain.

Luchadoras
A powerful story about female wrestlers in Mexico, fighting for recognition and respect in a male-dominated sport.

Alegría
A comedic and heartfelt look at three women navigating their lives and personal identities in Spain.

The Good Boss (El Buen Patrón)
A satirical look at corporate culture through the eyes of a factory owner who will stop at nothing to win a business award.

7 Reasons to Run Away (from Society)
A darkly comedic film exploring the absurdities of modern life and societal expectations.
