FLSA Overtime Rule Overturned

November 21, 2024

On November 15, 2024, a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas blocked the Department of Labor (DOL) rule which increased the salary thresholds for overtime pay regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). As communicated to campus in May 2024, this new rule was intended to increase the minimum salary thresholds that determine overtime eligibility for many workers nationwide. The revised rule would have established new salary minimum thresholds for overtime eligibility to take effect on January 1, 2025 along with automatic updates for salary  minimums for overtime eligibility over future years.

ISU’s Office of Human Resources and General Counsel will continue to monitor developments to  ensure the University maintains compliance with the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
