EHSS Safety Fair Award Recipients

August 22, 2024

On August 15, Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) successfully hosted a Safety Fair in collaboration with Fisher Scientific. The event brought together 22 vendors, each specializing in safety solutions for laboratories and operational units. Their exhibits offered valuable insights, resources, and hands-on demonstrations of innovative products.

The fair had fantastic attendance, with students, faculty and staff actively engaging with the vendors and participating in the breakout learning sessions. The strong turnout demonstrated the ISU community's commitment to enhancing and promoting safety practices across our campuses.

One of the highlights of the Safety Fair was the inaugural Safety and Sustainability Awards ceremony. Four awards were presented during this time and included two Safety Impact Awards, a Sustainability Impact Award and an EHSS Partnership Award. The Safety Impact awards were peer-nominated awards for outstanding contributions to safety within the academic and operational divisions. More than 12 individuals and departments were nominated for these awards by students, faculty and staff.

Lorie Kalivas, chemistry and Hunter Bright, facilities services, were honored for their exemplary efforts in promoting safety in their respective areas. Derek Barnard, facilities services, was also recognized with the Sustainability Impact Award for his efforts promoting the university's sustainability goals.

In addition to these individual awards, the entire grounds department was presented with the EHSS Partnership Award, acknowledging their consistent collaboration and dedication to maintaining a safe campus environment.

The event was a resounding success, underscoring the importance of safety on campus and celebrating those who go above and beyond to make ISU a safer place for everyone. EHSS is already looking ahead to next year's event, aiming to make it even bigger and better. We hope you will join us next year!
