Call for Proposals - Honors Seminars AY25-27
October 17, 2024
The deadline for submitting course proposals for Honors Seminars is this Friday, November 15.
The University Honors Program (UHP) at ISU is once again soliciting course proposals for Honors Seminars for the 2025-2027 academic years. The Honors Seminar, HONS 3391, is an opportunity for faculty to teach on an exciting topic that does not fit into their typical teaching obligations or ISU's regular course catalog. We particularly encourage submissions that are interdisciplinary, or think outside of the disciplinary box.
Honors Seminars:
- Are open to all Honors students and average 15-20 students per course
- Are 8-week, 1-credit classes. Instructors should design their courses to require approximately six hours of student work per week (this includes class meeting time and assignments/activities to be done outside of class)
- Should align with UHP's core principles and goals: https://www.isu.edu/honors/about
- May be co-taught
- Count as overload teaching. As such, faculty whose courses are chosen will sign a 1-credit contract for additional pay through UHP. Each selected course is taught once per academic year for up to two years
Interested faculty should develop a course title and a course description of up to 250 words. A course description might include answers to any of the following: Why might students want to take the course? What do you hope students will take away from your course? What is a representative assignment, discussion topic, or activity?
Faculty should also secure approval from their department or unit Chair prior to submitting a course proposal.
Proposals can be submitted at https://forms.gle/cxe5GmX56cXj87cC7 until 5 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Course proposals will be evaluated by the UHP Advisory Committee, which includes members from all colleges and divisions at ISU. Successful proposals will be announced by December 13, 2024. Selected courses will begin in either Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
