Call for Papers: Second Annual Arconexiones Graduate Student Conference at ISU
November 7, 2024
The Spanish MA students at Idaho State University (ISU) are thrilled to announce the second annual Arconexiones Graduate Student Conference, set to take place virtually on Saturday, February 8, 2025, via Zoom. This year’s theme, "Tracing and Constructing Connections: Translation, Adaptation, and Interpretation" ("Trazando y construyendo conexiones: la traducción, la adaptación, y la interpretación"), invites discussions on the dynamic relationships within cultural and literary studies, focusing particularly on the Hispanic world, Latin America, and Spain.
Graduate students and advanced undergraduates from ISU and other institutions are invited to submit proposals exploring these themes. Proposals are welcome in both English and Spanish, and must be submitted by Monday, December 9, 2024.
The one-day conference will feature two prominent keynote speakers in translation studies: Dr. Camila González Ortiz from the University of Reading, UK, an expert in Latin American theatre translation, and Dr. Alec Schumacher from Gonzaga University, WA, who specializes in poetry translation. Additionally, a roundtable discussion will offer insights into career opportunities for MA graduates in the fields of languages and cultures.
“We are excited to come together online for our second Arconexiones conference. The field of translation and adaptation studies has such applicability to our contemporary world– from medical translation, to literary translation, film adaptations, or parody sketches, for example. Our Spanish MA students are working hard behind the scenes to make this year's event a memorable and fruitful academic exchange. Our first conference, held last year, was such a successful community-building moment for our virtual MA students, that we are excited to find ways to grow and increase participation this year,” says Dr. Marin Laufenberg, faculty advisor to the conference planning committee.
