Volunteers Sought for ISU Physics' Haunted Science Laboratory
September 25, 2024
One of East Idaho’s most popular Halloween attractions returns next month, and they need your help.
Idaho State University’s Department of Physics and Kiwanis Club of Pocatello’s Haunted Science Laboratory will be back at the Bannock County Event Center in late October. Department staff is looking for volunteers to help set up and prepare for the hundreds of local students attending the event. The Haunted Lab features more than 50 educational and interactive science exhibits designed to delight, fright, and educate kids of all ages. Some exhibits use the same principles as Disneyland’s Haunted Science Mansion, except they are explained.
“The Haunted Science Lab is a positive and educational experience for our local youth,” said Steve Shropshire, professor of physics and lead organizer of the Haunted Science Laboratory. “Volunteering is a fantastic way to celebrate the holiday and share your excitement about STEM with all who attend.”
For more information on volunteering and to sign up, contact Steve Shropshire at (208) 282-2212 or shrostev@isu.edu. Set up for the event will take place from October 2 through October 16. Field trips are scheduled for October 17, 18, and 21 through 25. The public day will be October 26, and take-down sessions will be from October 27 through November 2.
For more than a decade, Idaho State’s Department of Physics and the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello have hosted the Haunted Science Laboratory as a free field trip for local schools. Last year, over 2,000 local students and adults from around the region visited the Haunted Science Laboratory on a field trip, and when it opened to the public, more than 450 visitors stopped by the lab.
