New Facilities and Administration (F&A) rates from the federal government

These rates are applied to externally sponsored projects as a way to recoup research-related administrative costs at ISU. 

Such costs might include: 

• Operations such as utility costs, security costs, and custodial costs. 
• Common administrative functions such as payroll and purchasing. 
• Sponsored project administration, research compliance, and support for faculty research development. 

The new F&A rate is based on ISU's most recent audited financial statements and reflects the costs of providing research facilities and services to its sponsored projects (external contracts and grants). Please visit the Office for Research website for more detailed information including the actual rates and a link to the signed rate agreement provided by the US government.  The F&A agreement is with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and is effective retroactively to July 1, 2022.
