Duo Security Coming to ISU

January 19, 2023

To comply with federal regulations* and to better protect ISU’s students, faculty, and staff from increasingly aggressive cyber security threats, ISU is implementing multi-factor authentication through Duo Security.

ISU will be rolling out Duo to ISU faculty and staff in phases over the next couple months, followed by our student population. When it is your turn to set up Duo, you will receive a heads-up email, followed the next day by your invitation to join Duo.  Duo multi-factor authentication will eventually become mandatory for current ISU affiliated people after the phased rollout period ends.

The preferred and most secure way to use Duo Security is to install the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone or device. When you sign in to BengalWeb, Moodle, or Banner, etc, you will receive a notification on your phone, asking if this is really you. Click Approve to confirm it’s you, then receive access to that system. This method is fast, simple, and secure. This short demonstration video shows this process.

If you cannot use the Duo Mobile app, we have alternative authentication methods available. Contact the Service Desk (x4357) to make arrangements for another form of multi-factor authentication after you receive your Duo email invitation.

We have instructions to help you set Duo up, as well as more detailed information. We are also happy to answer any questions; just contact the Service Desk at 208.282.4357, or at help@isu.edu. If you like, we can come to your department or area to present on Duo and answer questions. Contact Marjanna Hulet (x2598 or hulemarj@isu.edu) or Debra Brower (x2996 or debbrower@isu.edu) for arrangements.

*Multi-factor authentication is required as part of federal requirements under the The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
