September is Preparedness Month- Tips for A Preparedness Kits

September 27, 2023

September is Preparedness Month. This week we are going to be focusing on Preparedness Kits.

What is a preparedness kit?

  • A kit stocked with basic tools and supplies assembled to aid in survival during a disaster. It's important to have the proper items on hand in case of an emergency if you are unable to return home due to an impending disaster.

What is in a preparedness kit?

  • We have listed six easy items to keep readily available in a bag for you to grab and go.
  • You can check out Ready.gov/kit for more ideas of what to put in your preparedness kit.

Where should I keep my preparedness kit?

  • Anywhere that is readily available for you to grab and go. Whether that be in your house, place of work, or car.

Why do I need a preparedness kit?

  • Disaster and emergency situations can happen at any time and it is important to think ahead for what you will do. What if there was a fire in my building, how would I evacuate safely? What do I do in the event of an active shooter? If a threat existed and I was asked to shelter in place, how would I use the information provided to me to keep myself safe? What if I am traveling during a snowstorm and become stranded? Preparedness month is all about making you aware of the things that could happen. Having a preparedness kit and being informed are the small steps you can take to keep yourself safe.
