ISU School of Performing Arts to Present “Life x 3”

September 7, 2023

Idaho State University’s School of Performing Arts will present its first show of the season: “Life x 3” on Sept. 29, 30, and Oct. 5, 6, and 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Henry and Sonia are having a difficult evening with Arnaud, their wakeful six-year-old son; but Henry has other worries. About to publish his research on the flatness of galaxy halos, he’s desperate to make a good impression on Hubert Finidori, an astrophysicist. When Hubert arrives with his wife, Inez, in tow for dinner on the wrong night, Henry and Sonia are left to scramble to get the apartment in order. Add to this Hubert’s lust for Sonia; Inez’s weak head for alcohol; Henry’s discovery that rival scientists may have beaten him to the punch; Sonia’s equivocal feeling of attraction towards Hubert; and the entirely unpredictable behavior of the invisible Arnaud—and the stage is set for a catastrophic unraveling of normal civilized behavior.

“Life x 3,” is a slice-of-life affair, tackling marriage, parenthood and professional aspirations. Actually, as the title suggests, it’s more like three views of the same slice-of-life," said Show Director Vanessa Ballam. "The events covered in this play are seen three times over, each instant replay viewed from a slightly different angle.  It's a marvelous challenge for the actors and a fascinating display for the audience.”

Concessions will be available for purchase at select performances. Refreshments for “Life x 3” will be available before the show, beginning at 6:45 on Sept. 29 and Oct. 7 and also after the show for the return of the "Afterglow Reception" on opening night, Sept. 29. Selections include beer, wine, soft drinks, and seasonal snacks.
