Eames Building Weekend Closure

November 30, 2023

In close coordination with the Department of Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS), the University will be preparing stored neutron detectors for transportation and offsite storage over the coming weeks. Currently, these materials are under safe containment in a shipping container in the northwest corner of the Eames Building parking lot.

In September, it was discovered that the neutron detectors are too fragile to transport without additional safety precautions to minimize risk. Transporting the neutron detectors will be accomplished in two phases. First, the neutron detectors will be prepared for transportation on December 2 and 3, 2023. Secondly, the detectors will be safely transported to offsite storage on December 9, 2023.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Eames Building and parking lot will be closed to faculty, staff, and students on those weekend dates to facilitate safe preparation and transport of the detectors. Please plan accordingly, as there will be no public access to the building or parking lot on December 2, 3 and December 9, 2023.

Please direct any questions or concerns regarding this project to the EHSS Department at (208) 282-2310. We appreciate your patience as we safely prepare for the appropriate offsite storage of these materials.
