Discontinuation of the Commuter Bus Program

April 29, 2022

After careful review and consideration of operations of the University’s commuter bus program, Idaho State has made the decision to cease operations of the commuter bus route between Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and the Pocatello campus as of December 17, 2022.

Bus passes will remain available to the campus community for the Fall 2022 semester. However, Transportation Services will no longer offer commuter services starting with the Spring 2023 semester.

The ISU commuter bus program has been an important part of the campus community since 1975, particularly prior to the growth of class offerings on the Idaho Falls campus and the recent expansion of online classes. However, significant declines in ridership on the commuter bus in recent years has resulted in the decision that the university can no longer invest in an aging commuter bus fleet as more members of the campus community have utilized personal transportation, or have taken advantage of classes on the Idaho Falls campus or online class delivery. Members of the campus community who are interested in exploring carpooling options may wish to register and search for fellow carpoolers with resources such as sharetherideidaho.com, or similar ride-sharing apps. Additionally, students are encouraged to work with Academic Advising to explore the most effective and accessible classes for their course of study. It is hoped that with continued expansion of offerings on all campuses, and online class delivery, that the university can experience continued enrollment growth as students identify the most effective and convenient manner to access their programs of study.

Members of the campus community may contact ISU Transportation Services at 208-282-4460 with questions regarding commuter bus services through the remainder of 2022.
