Black History Month Events
February 7, 2022
The ISU Diversity Resource Center is pleased to partner with our ISU colleagues and community partners to provide this year’s programming in celebration of Black History Month. The organizing theme for this year’s programming is Afrofuturism and the principle of Sankofa. Afrofuturism is a cultural movement that reimagines the history of the African Diaspora to consider how the present and future of Africans and the African Diaspora might have developed had history unfolded differently (e.g. had the continent not been colonized). The Sankofa Principle comes from the Akan people of Ghana and instructs us to remember the past in order to understand today and make positive progress in the future. We are happy to provide programming that collectively reflects on and connects these two ideas.
