January 21, 2021
Artwork by Rudy Kovacs, professor emeritus in the Department of Art, is featured in a current exhibition at the Boise Art Museum.
The exhibition, “Outside the Lines,” features Kovacs’ piece “Cage Letter #2”, which is part of BAM’s permanent collection. “Outside the Lines” runs until May 2021.
“(Kovacs’) artwork is helping the Museum to fulfill its mission to create visual arts experiences that engage people and inspire learning through exceptional exhibitions, collections, and educational opportunities now and into the future,” wrote Melanie Fales, BAM executive director.
“Cage Letter #2” was created in 1993 from warp face linen, rayon, gold leaf and paint, and measures 60 inches by 36 inches. Kovacs’ 2007 piece “Oaxaca Memories #5” is also included in the museum’s permanent collection.
“Outside the Lines” was designed to encourage engagement with artworks in that permanent collection, exploring how artists employ the elements of art and principles of design to convey mood, provoke emotional responses and communicate with viewers.
Kovacs served as a faculty member in the Department of Art from 1980 to 2012.
