January 14, 2021
Elizabeth (Betsy) Brunner, an assistant professor in the Department of Communication, Media, and Persuasion, is set to work at a non-profit organization after over four years at Idaho State.
Brunner's research on environmental activism in China has been widely published, including a 2019 book titled Environmental Activism, Social Media, and Protest in China: Becoming Activists over Wild Public Networks. She was awarded an ISU faculty seed grant for a second book, a funded fellowship at the Communication University of China, and ISU’s Outstanding Researcher award in 2019.
Brunner taught graduate courses in Social Movements & Social Media and undergraduate courses in numerous areas such as Media Literacy, Visual Rhetoric, and Gender and Communication. Along with a team of colleagues in the College of Arts and Letters, Brunner was active in organizing and raising money for several events, including “Surviving Voices: Stories of Violence Against Women and the Persistence of Hope” and “Speak Out: Community Empowerment Against Sexual Violence.”
She will be sincerely missed by many former students and colleagues. To send Brunner a note of appreciation and luck, please contact her at betsyabrunner@gmail.com.
