Simplot Games – No Limits

Simplot Games is the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. The event, which began in 1979 and is sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company, bring thousands of athletes each year to Pocatello, Idaho. This year, athletes will come from the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia to showcase their abilities.

Not only will over 2,200 track and field athletes get the opportunity to compete at an open meet, they will also have the chance to mingle with Olympic legends, including Dick Fosbury, Andre Phillips, Willie Banks, and Stacy Dragila. High school athletes will also be recognized in the Parade of Athletes, which is a truly Olympic-style event.

Simplot Games is not only an event that athletes enjoy, but an event that the community loves. Simplot Games relies heavily on hundreds of community volunteers and sponsors, many of whom go unnoticed for their support.

“Simplot Games couldn’t take place without the support of the community and volunteers,” said Lisa Woodland, Executive Director of Simplot Games. “They work so hard to make sure the games are a success for the athletes year after year. They make the Games happen.”

Though much of the action takes place at the Games, athletes are given opportunities off the track too. Some of the highlights of Simplot Games actually happen away from Holt Arena.

After Dark 2019

Athletes can make Valentine’s Day a party at Simplot Games’ After Dark event at Outer Limits Fun Zone, an indoor recreation center. On February 14, athletes can cool off and interact with fellow competitors while enjoying laser tag, black light miniature golf, miniature bowling, arcade games, food, and more. Tickets are required.

Breakfast with Fosbury and Friends

The annual Breakfast with Fosbury and Friends will feature John Register, an Army veteran and Paralympic Long Jump Silver Medalist. Register will speak and then take audience questions while attendees enjoy breakfast. Tickets are required for this community event.

Simplot Games takes place over a three-day period that is packed with competition and excitement. Though the Games have something special to offer for all competitors, for some athletes the event means more. Simplot Games is known to help launch some athletes into their collegiate, and sometimes Olympic, careers.

“Simplot Games is a place for athletes to shine,” Woodland said. “They offer a place for athletes on any level the opportunity to compete and show their talents.”
