Trio McNair program seeks applicants

Are you interested in Graduate School? Not sure how to get there or you'd like some help along the way? You could qualify for the TRIO McNair Scholars program- a free program funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
The goal of the program is to support the academic achievement of students in their last two years of undergraduate studies from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education and to assist with the academic and professional development of undergraduate students whose goals are to research at the graduate school level and obtain a PhD.
Some of the benefits of being a TRIO McNair Scholar:
• Work with a faculty research mentor.
• Participate in a paid summer research internship.
• Assistance with identifying and applying to graduate schools.
• Assistance with locating and applying to research internships.
• Assistance in applying for graduate school funding.
• GRE test preparation, tutoring, and fee reduction qualification.
• Fee waivers for graduate school applications.
• Opportunities to present research at local, regional, and national conferences
Currently, we are recruiting for our 2022 and 2023 cohorts. To qualify you must:
- Be a first generation college student (neither parent earned a 4 year college degree before you were 18 years old) AND limited income OR be from an underrepresented racial/ethnic group in graduate school (Hispanic/Latinx, Black/African American, Native American, Native Alaskan, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander)
- Have and maintain a 3.2 GPA
- Be interested in doing academic research,
- Have a desire to go on to graduate school and obtain a doctorate degree,
For the 2022 Cohort: Must be in the last two years of undergraduate study (with 58 credits or more) by the beginning of Fall 2020 semester, with a December 2021 or May 2022 graduation date
For the 2023 Cohort: Must be in the last two years of undergraduate study (with 58 credits or more) by the beginning of Fall 2021 semester, with a December 2022 or May 2023 graduation date.
STUDENTS: We have created an eligibility survey for any interested student. All information is confidential and used by the McNair Program Staff only.
