POCATELLO – The Idaho State University Spirt Squads are looking for a little help from their friends to help the Cheer Squad and Bengal Dancers compete at national competitions this spring.

The ISU Foundation has setup a “Support Your Sidelines” fund to help the Cheer Squad compete at the United Spirit Association Collegiate Championships in Anaheim, California, Feb. 23-24 and for the Bengal Dancers to compete at the National Dance Alliance College Nationals in Daytona, Florida April 3-7.

The web address for the “Support Your Sidelines” is https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/Sidelines. Interested parties can also text SIDELINES to 71777.

“As much as they love supporting the Bengals at athletic events and performing in the community, it is also in their blood to compete,” said Kolissa Manchan, Bengal Dancers coach. They love to compete and have been competing all their lives. They’ve been looking forward all year to competing against some of the best dance teams in the United States at nationals.”

Though speaking of the Bengal Dancers, Manchan’s remarks hold true for the Cheer Squad as well.

“I watch our teams support Bengal athletics all season long and they love it, but it is nice to give them the opportunity to fulfill their own dreams to compete at Nationals,” said Misty Stucki, cheer coach. “Any donation helps and goes a long way and is appreciated more than you know.”

The Bengal Spirit Squads receive basic funding through ISU Campus Recreation that covers scholarships, coaching and uniforms, but to go to nationals and other extras the squads do their own fundraising.

“We’ve been fundraising all year to get to nationals,” Manchan said. “But this is the first time we’ve participated in this kind of fundraiser and it is also the first time cheer and dance have fundraised together. This should be beneficial because together we are the Spirit Squad and we get along very well and support each other.”

“Think of it this way, they get under three minutes to show the nation what they’re made of,” Stucki said.

As of Feb. 15, 70 donors had given more than $3,000 to “Support Your Sidelines.”
