Oboler Library receives SHRAB grant

POCATELLO – Special Collections and Archives in the Eli M. Oboler Library at Idaho State University has recently been awarded a grant from the Idaho State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) using funds provided by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
The grant award of $3,246 will be used to digitize, transcribe and re-house in proper archival storage boxes, the Idaho State University Oral History Project Collection.
The collection includes 46 open reels and 13 audio cassettes of recorded oral histories conducted by students enrolled in ISU’s department of History. These recordings were created in 1971 through the early 1980s consist of interviews with individuals from Pocatello and southeast Idaho, and include some of the more fragile materials within ISU’s collections. If not reformatted, the risk of loss is extremely high. Once completed later this fall, the oral histories will be available online as part of the Special Collections and Archives digital collections.
Ellen M. Ryan, head of special collections and archives will serve as principal investigator, and McKenzie Young will serve as an assistant on the project.
