ISU Week of Welcome features full slate of activities Aug. 19-24

POCATELLO – Returning Idaho State University students will have a host of activities to partake in during Week of Welcome, from the Welcome Back Orange and Black Celebration on Aug. 19 to a Paint Party on Aug. 24.

“During the years, Week of Welcome has grown, it has expanded and there have been new features added each year,” said Brooke Barber, director of leadership and orientation, for the ISU Office of Student Involvement and Orientation. “I am very excited this year because the academic colleges have embraced Week of Welcome and nearly all of them have added in an activity on behalf of their faculty to help welcome back students.”

Here is a list of Week of Welcome events:

Monday, Aug. 19 – Friday, Aug. 23

      • Week-long “Healthy Roar Scavenger Hunt” hosted by the Kasiska Division of Health Science. Students can use the Actionbound scavenger hunt app or pick up a scavenger hunt card at Room 123 of Gravely Hall or at the front office at ISU-Meridian. The participants then can visit health clinics and other Kasiska Division of Health Science locations and complete the scavenger hunt to be entered into a drawing for a FitBit fitness tracker. Students in both Pocatello and Meridian can participate.

Monday, Aug. 19

     • “Grab and Go” Breakfast,  8 - 10 a.m., on the Business Administration Building lawn, hosted by the College of Business. Event will feature a “first day of class” photo booth.

     • Welcome to Institute Ice Cream Social, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.at the Institute of Religion parking lot, hosted by the Latter-Day Saint Student Association. Participants can get soft-serve ice cream and learn about what the Institute of Religion has to offer.

     • Welcome Back Orange and Black celebration, 4-7 p.m. Old Town Pocatello Pavilion, hosted by the CommUniversity Committee and Old Town Pocatello. Students can start the fall semester by enjoying free restaurant samples, giveaways and live entertainment. Free shuttles will be provided from Reed Gym.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

     • Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Social, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Physical Science Building, south-side lawn, hosted by the College of Science and Engineering. Participants can meet the faculty and staff of College of Science and Engineering, eat ice cream and enjoy lawn activities.

     • Commemorative ISU Ornament Painting, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., hosted by the ISU Craft Shop in the Pond Student Union’s lower level, just past the Game Center. Participants can bring their creativity and decorate a clay ornament made by our wonderful staff.

     • Crate Stacking, 6 - 8 p.m., Reed Gym Climbing Wall, hosted by Campus Recreation Participants can stack as many upside-down plastic milk crates as possible and stand on the top.

     • Cold Butts and Beer, 8 -10 p.m., Bartz Field, hosted by Chi Alpha. Participants can ride ice blocks downhill and enjoy a root beer kegger, weather permitting.

Wednesday, Aug. 21

     • Student Union BBQ and Involvement Fair, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., ISU Hutchinson Quadrangle (rain location: Pond Student Union Ballroom), hosted by the Student Union and Student Organizations. Students can “find their stripes” by learning more about ISU’s clubs and organizations. Event includes free lunch BBQ and music.

     • Popsicle Palooza, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m., Cadet Field (rain location:Rendezvous Complex), hosted by the College of Education. Event includes free swag, popsicles and lawn games. Participants can meet the faculty and staff of College of Education and enjoy lawn activities like tight rope, corn hole, spike ball and flying discs.

     • Escape Eli’s Enigma Escape Room, 2, 4 and 6 p.m., Eli M. Oboler Library, hosted by ISU Libraries. Space is limited for this activity. Prizes will be awarded for the team who completes the room with the fastest time. Participants can register online at isu.libguides. com/escape.

     • Glow Bowling, 6 – 8 p.m., Pond Student Union, hosted by the Game Center.  Free T-shirts are available for the first 100 students.

     • Costco Night, 8 – 10 p.m., Pocatello Costco, hosted by Costco and ISU Credit Union. Students will be able to do some private shopping with no membership needed. The event features food, gifts and raffle prizes. Free shuttles will be provided from Reed Gym.

Thursday, Aug. 22

     • Part-Time Job and Internship Fair, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Pond Student Union Ballroom, hosted by the Career Center

     • College of Technology Dunking Booth and Cotton Candy, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Roy F. Christensen Building, hosted by College of Technology. Event features free popcorn and cotton candy, and deals on cosmetology and automotive services.

     • Escape Eli’s Enigma Escape Room,  2, 4 and 6 p.m., Eli M. Oboler Library, hosted by ISU Libraries. Space is limited for this activity. Prizes will be awarded for the team who completes the room with the fastest time. Participants can register online at isu.libguides. com/escape.

     • Open Climb, 5 p.m. until dark, hosted by the Outdoor Adventure Center. This a regular climbing session on Thursday evenings at 5 p.m. Top ropes are set up by the Outdoor Adventure Center at the Ross Park climbing areas. The center provides the ropes and equipment to ISU students. Van transportation will be provided and depart from the Outdoor Adventure Center office at the Pond Student Union at 5 and 6 p.m.

     • Let’s Dance ISU, 8 – 10 p.m., Hutchinson Quadrangle grass area, hosted by International Programs Office. The event features a DJ, prizes and free food. All students are invited.

Friday, Aug. 23

     • Escape Eli’s Enigma Escape Room, noon, 2 and 4 p.m., Eli M. Oboler Library, hosted by ISU Libraries. Space is limited for this activity. Prizes will be awarded for the team who completes the room with the fastest time. Participants can register online at isu.libguides. com/escape.

     • Late Night at the Union “70’s Dance Party,” 9 - 11 p.m., Quad Hypostyle, hosted by Union Program Council.

Saturday, Aug. 24
