Hundreds Attending ISU Early Registration Days In April

March 4, 2019

Hundreds of new students will step onto our Pocatello campus for the 2019 Early Registration event, Tuesday through Thursday, April 2-5, bringing their parents, grandparents, guardians, siblings, and friends. The students will be registering for classes, learning about academic programs and financial aid, and exploring campus. And, in many cases, they will still be deciding where they want to start their college career. Early Registration is the perfect time to help them finalize that decision by making them feel welcome. As President Kevin Satterlee says, “We are here to serve our students. For all of us at Idaho State University, it is more than a job— it is a calling. At every opportunity, it’s vital that we show students that we care about them and their future and that they have a home here as a Bengal.”

We need your help in blanketing the entire campus with the message that ISU is excited about our incoming fall students. Specific groups will begin checking in at the Pond Student Union each day at 8 a.m., and registration events will run until about 2:30 p.m., so these students will spend several hours on our grounds. They will be crossing campus from Holt to the SUB in cars and buses and walking up and down the sidewalks between the SUB and Turner. They’ll be visiting student support services, locating their classrooms, getting a feel for the campus, and we invite the campus community to take this opportunity to engage with them, to start building positive and lasting relationships at this important time.

All areas of campus are invited to do something as an office, a department, or a college that offers a unique welcome from you and your staff. Possibilities? Try hosting a sidewalk display, put a message to new students on a poster or outside an office, hand out treats or information cards to passers-by to let them know you’re glad they are here.

If you’d like to discuss ideas and options, please contact the Early Registration co-chairs, JoAnn Hertz, Director of Advising (hertjoan@isu.edu), or Kelly Moor, Director, First Year Transition (moorkell@isu.edu).
