POCATELLO – Leif Tapanila, Idaho State University geosciences professor and director of the Idaho Museum of Natural History, is a co-author on a scientific paper published this summer in the Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History that describes the Trans-Saharan Seaway in Mali, Africa, and the strange creatures that existed there 50 to 100 million years ago.

Idaho Museum of Natural History researchers receive grant to digitally scan bones of California blue whale

POCATELLO – The Idaho Museum of Natural History and Idaho State University received a $20,000 award from the National Science Foundation in January to scan the entire skeleton of a blue whale that washed ashore in California. The skeleton is at the Noyo Center for Marine Science in Fort Bragg, California.

Fire Extinguished at Rendezvous Building

POCATELLO––On Friday evening just after 6 p.m., a fire was reported in the Rendezvous Building on the Idaho State University campus. Everyone inside the building at the time of the fire was able to safely evacuate, and no injuries were reported.

The thorough investigation, launched immediately after receiving the complaint, found the allegations to be unsubstantiated.
