Blood Drive Set Nov. 20

November 14, 2019

Student Involvement is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the Student Union's Wood River Room from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Please register at redcrossblood.org and use Sponsor code ISUbengals. Here are some reasons to donate:

  • You may need it. According to MIblood.org, 75% of Americans who reach the age of 72 will need blood in their lifetime.
  • It saves lives. One donation can save up to three lives.
  • Approximately 32,000 pints of blood are used in the U.S. each day.
  • It can be a competition with your friends. Sign up at the same time and see who can donate blood faster.
  • There is no substitute for blood.
  • It doesn’t cost a thing and you get free snacks for doing it.
  • One out of every seven people who enters a hospital will need blood.
  • It helps your community. Your blood stays in local hospitals and will help patients who may be your neighbor or friend.
  • Donating blood burns 600 calories.
  • You get a free mini-physical. They check your pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, hemoglobin levels. You are also checked for diseases like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, West Nile virus, and syphilis.
  • It only takes an hour of your time (including paperwork) and you get to relax while you’re donating blood.
  • Doing good deeds like donating blood will make a positive impact on your mental and emotional health.
