ISU-CAES Internal Seed Grants Request for Proposals from ISU Faculty

The ISU Office for Research (OR) recognizes the need of faculty to fund research-related activities associated with the Center for Applied Energy Studies (CAES). To that end, ISU's OR has established a program to distribute available CAES funds.

Eligibility: All ISU faculty (≥0.5 FTE) who conduct research activities relevant to CAES are eligible.

CAES Cooperation: Funding will be awarded to projects associated with CAES Focus Areas and engender collaboration with colleagues at INL, BSU, UI, or the University of Wyoming. As described in more detail in the CAES Strategic Plan, Focus Areas include: Advanced Manufacturing, Computing/Data/ Visualization, Cybersecurity, Energy Policy, Energy-Water Nexus, Innovative Energy Systems, and Nuclear Energy.

Allowed activities: Funding is available for these purposes:

1. Research expenses by faculty or supervised students (but no faculty/staff salaries or stipends).
2. Undergraduate and graduate student support (wages only, no stipends or tuition).
3. Travel by faculty or students to perform research and/or attend meetings and

Funding: $100,000 is available, individual awards expected to be $5,000 to $20,000.

Deadlines: Applications due 5 pm Tuesday, December 3, 2019. All expenses must be accrued by August 31, 2020.

6. Impact - how will this "seed" project potentially evolve into a larger CAES collaboration that attracts significant external funding?
