ISU Dance Program to participate in third annual National Water Dance
April 10, 2018
POCATELLO – Idaho State University’s dance program will participate in the third annual National Water Dance on April 14 at 4 p.m. at the Portneuf Wellness Complex. The event is free and open to the public, and will also be livestreamed on ISU Dance Program’s Facebook page.
More than 1,500 dancers from around the world will perform a site-specific dance at a river, a bay, a lake, the ocean or any water site nearby to celebrate and take responsibility for protecting water. Dancers includes those from professional dance companies, colleges and universities, private dance schools, and elementary, middle and high schools. Each performance will start and end with the same opening sequence of movements. Groups across the country will perform the same sequence at 4 p.m. across the country.
“We’re all connected,” said Dale Andree, NWD Projects producer and founder and artistic director of National Water Dance in a news release. “What we’ve done is create a community of dancers across the country, including Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico, who want to involve dance in the national conversation about water issues.”
National Water Dance is an artist-driven collection of dancers and educators confronting critical water issues facing the United States. Stretching from New York to Hawaii and from Alaska to Puerto Rico they create simultaneous, site-specific dance performances with movers of all ages and experience. Created and directed by Andree, National Water Dance organizers believe that our environment is the most pressing issue of this generation and dancers can use their bodies to create a community that reaches out for action.
If community dancers are interested in joining the dance program, contact Kathy Diehl at diehkath@isu.edu or 208-282-6143 for more information.
