Free dinner and movie at ISU set March 27 to celebrate women in science
March 20, 2017
POCATELLO – The Women in Science celebration March 27 at the Idaho State University Pond Student Union features a free showing of the movie “Hidden Figures,” a free taco bar dinner and the opportunity to meet female scientists.
Participants can meet women scientists and enjoy the free taco dinner bar at 6:30 p.m. in the Bengal Theater Lobby, and then the movie “Hidden Figures” will be shown at 8 p.m.
“Hidden Figures” details the history of how when NASA was trying to send John Glenn to the moon in 1962, the agency had to “look beyond the numbers and use math that did not yet exist. At a time when women were not allowed in the Mission Control Center, a female mathematician dared to be the first to enter a field dominated by men and solve the complexity of space flight that would send man into orbit and back. “
Interested participants are asked to RSVP at ostem@isu.edu or call Stephanie Richardson, director of the ISU Gender Resource Center, at 208-282-3590.
This event is sponsored by the ISU Gender Resource Center, Office for Research – STEM Diversity and Outreach and the ISU Professional Women.
