Denim Day Campaign to prevent sexual violence set April 19 at ISU
April 4, 2017
POCATELLO – Denim Day, an annual campaign to prevent sexual violence through education and public awareness, will be observed at Idaho State University from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 19 on the ISU Hutchinson Quadrangle under the Pond Student Union Hypostyle.
The event features a DJ from Main Street Music, a barbeque with hot dogs and there will be jeans to paint.
Denim Day culminates Sexual Assault Awareness Month each April. It began in Italy in the 1990s when women legislators wore jeans to protest a Supreme Court verdict overturning a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. In April 1999, a social service agency in Los Angeles established the first Denim Day in the United States, and in 2015, Idaho State University held the first Denim Day on campus.
Denim Day is a day when community members, survivors, faculty, students, staff, elected officials and businesses wear denim as a visible statement in support of survivors and against misconceptions about sexual assault.
If you have jeans you would like to donate please bring them to the Gender Resource Center, in the Rendezvous Complex, second floor, Room 235.
