POCATELLO – The Idaho State University College of Business is hosting the grand opening of its new Student Community Center on Wednesday, March 15, of the new Student Community Center in Room 216 of the Business Administration building.
On this day the College will host a series of afternoon events to introduce the space’s accommodations to College of Business students, supporters and friends. The event begins at 12:15 p.m. when students are invited to enjoy light appetizers, a raffle and tours to be held at 12:20 and 3:20 p.m. Students will also have the opportunity to reserve the study rooms for group projects and study sessions.
The day will conclude with a ribbon cutting and open house celebration at 5:15 p.m. The ISU community, students and friends of the College of Business are invited to tour the new space. Appetizers will be served.
The idea for the Student Community Center was originally formed based on student requests.
“At the end of each semester we hold a focus group for students in the capstone classes,” said Tom Ottaway, College of Business dean. “During this survey we most often found that students felt there was a lack of open space for studying and working in groups within the business building.”
The now completed space sits on the second floor of the business building and spans the length of what were two classrooms. Enclosed by windows and decorated with modern orange, black and gray furniture the room creates an open and welcoming space for students to work in groups, study between classes and build on the comradery culture found in the College. Complete with four individually reserved study rooms and a student organizations boardroom and storage area, students will now have an innovative and comfortable space to work.
