Support wildland firefighters at the Idaho Museum of Natural History on Aug. 12

August 8, 2017

Living with Fire poster

POCATELLO – The Idaho Museum of Natural History (IMNH) on the Idaho State University campus will donate all admission fees collected on Saturday, Aug. 12, to help wildland firefighters.

The admission fees will be donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation (WFF), a non-profit organization that helps families of firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty. WFF honors and acknowledges past, present, and future members of the wildland firefighting community, and partners with private and interagency organizations to bring recognition to wildland firefighters.

While at the museum, visitors can see how firefighters protect Idaho lands in the IMNH’s “Living with Fire” exhibit. Wildfires are a natural part of Idaho's arid landscape. For as long as forests and grasslands have covered the earth's surface, seasonal fires have consumed, renewed and shaped them. Plants and animals of our region have adopted ways to live with fire, but changes to fire frequency and the ever-expanding human population into wild spaces brings new challenges.

Also, visitors can learn while they play while interacting with the IMNH’s popular traveling exhibit, “Be the Dinosaur,” here for its final month. This groundbreaking fusion of arcade and traditional exhibits features full-size dinosaur bones, a paleontology field station, a Safari Jeep and more. Visitors of all ages can enter into the largest and most complex restoration of an extinct ecosystem ever created.

Come to IMNH and help support our wildland firefighters Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cash is preferred for entry to this event or visitors can make a direct donation to the WFF at time of entry.
