Hoffman California Fabrics joins ISU Licensees Company; brings unique, innovative fabric designs to Pocatello market

October 20, 2017

POCATELLO – Hoffman Fabrics announced it is adding the licensed marks/images of Idaho State University to its list of national universities.

The 93-year-old, family-owned company converts the highest-quality cottons and blends, producing more than 800 innovative screenprints and handmade batik fabrics each year.

Founded in 1924 by Rube Hoffman, a New York textile jobber, today Hoffman California Fabrics is the recognized leader in the batiks category as “the first, the finest and the favorite” of quilters around the world and as “quilting’s original Bali batik maker.”

The company introduced hand-dyed and batiked fabrics – designed in the United States and made at the Hoffman factory on the island of Bali – to American surfwear manufacturers and to the quilt industry.

Hoffman California Fabrics designs and manufactures premium screenprinted and hand-dyed fabrics for independent retailers focused on the quilting and home-sewing markets, and for other manufacturers and entrepreneurs.

“Hoffman employs a team of in-house textile artists to create fabric collections for the quilting/home-sewing industry, as well as all types of manufacturing,” said Mark Levine, ISU licensing consultant. “Their advancement into the collegiate marketplace offers the opportunity for dozens of useful licensed products.”

Tammy Melott, Hoffman’s vice president of manufacturing, adds “Quilters and sewists specifically ask for Hoffman California Fabrics’ authentic Bali batiks and artful screenprints at quilt shops and other independent retailers. Our partnership agreement with ISU will bring quality fabric, designs and a variety of finished products to the marketplace.”

The company’s imaginative fabrics originate with a team of in-house textile artists. Many designs are developed from hand-drawn and hand-painted art. In addition, Hoffman champions fiber artists worldwide via the annual Hoffman Challenge competition for quilters and sewists.

The company has active partnerships with wholesale distributors based in Australia; New Zealand; Canada; the United Kingdom; Germany; the Netherlands; Scandinavia; and Japan.

Idaho State University fabric, material and licensed products are scheduled to be available in early Spring 2018.
