University statement in response to recent events

May 11, 2016

In response to recent allegations of a cover up and questions being raised about Idaho State University’s handling of these reports, we strongly deny these accusations. Any allegations that ISU is covering up reports regarding student safety and security are entirely false.

As a state agency, we are 100 percent transparent, and we actively investigate all reported incidents.  Additionally, when necessary, ISU alerts the campus community of situations related to public safety.

Every complaint that has been reported to ISU has been thoroughly investigated, and many of the recent reports have proven uncorroborated in light of physical evidence.  Furthermore, our case files are open to the public for inspection.

In response to concerns of student safety on campus, we’ve increased campus patrols, applied the use of unmarked vehicles for detection purposes, and implemented 24-hour active monitoring of the more than 750 surveillance cameras on campus.  We are also in the process of expanding our video surveillance program.

ISU is annually ranked as one of the safest campuses in the U.S., and we continue to maintain a safe environment for our students, faculty, and staff.  We join others in the community who are troubled to learn about alleged off-campus violence involving one of our students.  We have been in communication with the Pocatello Police Department, and ISU will continue to provide any assistance requested.
