ISU’s 45th annual Spring Powwow set April 1-2

POCATELLO – The Idaho State University student group Native Americans United will host the 45th annual ISU Spring Powwow April 1-2 at Reed Gymnasium.

The free event features grand entries at 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, and at 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2. The NAU is an Associated Students of ISU organization.

The powwow with run to about 11:30 p.m. on April 1. On April 2, there will be a dinner break from about 5 to 7 p.m.

The event’s host drum is Crazy Horse Singers and South Dakota. The master of ceremonies will be Tyson Shay and the arena director is Chasen Coby. Headman for the event is David Lee and headwoman is December Arrow White.

Dance categories are golden age 60-plus; traditional fancy, grass/chicken, women 18-59; traditional fancy, jingle, boys 13-17; traditional fancy, grass/chicken, girls 13-17; traditional fancy, jingle, junior boys, 6-12; traditional fancy, grass/chicken, junior girls, 6-12; and traditional fancy, jingle, tiny tots, kids 5 and younger.

The event also will feature a drum contest, raffles and vendors offering unique Native American arts, crafts and concessions.
