ISU has plenty of Halloween events in October

Tuesday Oct. 18

        • Orange You Scared Bingo, 7 p.m. – The SAB will host this Bingo night in the Pond Student Union Ballroom. The grand prize will be a Garmin Vivoactive Smartwatch! Admission is $5 for ISU students, $3 for faculty and staff and $5 for the public.

Wednesday Oct. 19

         • In My Backyard: Bats! 4 to 6 p.m. – The Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University will host this after-school event showcasing bats and their role in pest control and plant pollination. Come buck the trend and find out why bats are awesome. Museum staff will bring preserves bat specimens as well as art and craft activities. Saturday Oct. 22

          • Family Fun Day: Meet the Creepy Crawlies, 9 a.m. to noon – Did you know “creepy” animals are less likely to be studied by scientists or be the focus of conservation? The Idaho Museum of Natural History wants to change that. Museum staff will have some live animals and preserved specimens that represent the best of Idaho’s creepy crawly wildlife. Wednesday Oct. 26

           • Bootacular Halloween Carnival, 6 to 8 p.m. – The Student Activities Board will host this free Halloween carnival for ISU students and community members in the Pond Student Union Ballroom. Student Activities Board at (208) 282-3451.

Thursday Oct. 27

        •  Behind the Mask, 6 to 9 p.m. – The Idaho Museum of Natural History will host this arts and crafts event where participants can transform their identities through mask creations. There will be a variety of different forms for people to make their own mask. In addition, attendees will get a chance to learn about the Alaskan masks in the exhibit “Exposed: Never Before Seen Wonders” and learn about the plague masks of yore. Saturday Oct. 29

          • Halloween Costume Fun Run, 1-4 p.m. – The ISU Student Physical Therapy Association will host the 5k and one-mile runs. Both runs begin and end at Reed Gym. Admission is $10 for ages 13 and up, $8 for ISU students and $4 for kids. Prizes will be given for the best costume, so come dressed up. There will also be activities for all ages at Reed Gym.            • Halloween Spook-tacular Family Concert, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. – The Idaho State Civic Symphony will host this concert at Jensen Hall of the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $6 per person. Come dressed as your favorite character or ghoul. There will also be pre-concert activities in the Rotunda from 10-11 a.m. with hands-on activities and an instrument petting zoo.            • Haunted Science Lab, 4-9 p.m. –  The ISU Society of Physics Students, Kiwanis Club of Pocatello and the ISU physics department will host a Haunted Science Laboratory exhibit open to the public on Oct. 29, from 4 to 9 p.m. at 300 North Fifth Ave. at the corner of North Fifth Ave. and East Lander in Pocatello in the Robert Allen Auto Building. The Haunted Laboratory features interactive exhibits designed to delight, fright and educate kids of all ages. Exhibits include a Van deGraaf generator, lasers moving to music, and lots of cool illusions with smoke and mirrors. Several exhibits use the same principles of those of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, except that here they are explained.

The entrance fee on Saturday will be $3 per person, or $7 per family (limit six). 

All proceeds will go to Kiwanis supported charities benefiting Southeast Idaho Children. Volunteers are needed for exhibit set up and to help with school field trips. Volunteers must be over the age of 18, available during public school hours, and be without a criminal record.

Monday Oct. 31

            • Trunk or Treat, 6:30 p.m. – The Student Athlete Advisory Council will host a Trunk or Treat event for Pocatello’s elementary school children in the southeastern parking lot of Holt Arena.
