September 20, 2016

POCATELLO – Idaho State University 10th-day total enrollment for fall 2016 semester is 11,025, a 2.1 percent decline from the fall semester 2015 10th-day enrollment of 11,259, but Idaho resident enrollment increased by 2.6 percent.

The biggest decline in enrollment was from international students, down 513 students, a 36 percent decline from last fall’s 1,431 international students. There are 918 international students enrolled at ISU at this point in the semester.

ISU had enrollment gains in other areas:

  • Idaho resident enrollment increased by 2.6 percent, an increase of 227 students, bringing that total to 8,966.
  • Non-resident domestic enrollment and graduate student enrollment both increased by 4.8 percent. There are now 1,141 non-Idaho resident students, an increase of 52 students.
  • In fall 2016, there are 1,954 graduate students, an increase of 89 students over last year.
  • Another bright spot was the success of ISU’s Bengal Bridge, a program designed to give prospective students tools for college. This summer, 116 students participated, and 89 of them, 77 percent, enrolled at ISU this fall.
  • New undergraduate transfer enrollment is 427, an increase of seven students or 1.7 percent. The five top transfer institutions are the College of Southern Idaho, Brigham Young University-Idaho, Boise State University, College of Western Idaho and Eastern Idaho Technical College.
  • Early College registration started earlier this fall.  Early College enrollment is 438, an increase of 326 from last fall’s 10th-day total of 112.

ISU officially reports numbers to the Idaho State Board of Education on Census Day, which is Oct. 15.  On average, ISU annually gains about 1,800 students between 10th day and Census Day.  For example, fall 2015 10th-day enrollment was 11,259, and Fall 2015 Census Day total enrollment increased to 13,133.
