Idaho State University’s summer outdoor adventure workshops set June through July

Idaho State University’s Outdoor Adventure Center will hold adventure workshops for ISU students and the community in June and July including workshops on river rescue and safety, beginning rock climbing, beginning kayak and advanced kayak.
Upcoming workshops include:
• June 5-7 “Rescue and Safety Workshop”
The river rescue workshop is a concentrated course to help individuals develop their river rescue skills. June 5, will be spent discussing accident prevention, hypothermia, rescue organization and liability as well as learning knots, anchors and self-equalizing systems needed to do rescues. June 6 and 7 will be spent on the water working on self-rescue, and different rescue techniques from the simplest to more complicated. The cost of the workshop is $120 for ISU students, $144 for ISU affiliate and $168 for the community members. Deadline to sign up is June 4.
• June 17, 20 and 21 “Beginning Rock Climbing Workshop”
Participants can spend two days camping and climbing in one of Idaho’s most famous climbing areas. The workshop is designed for those with little or no climbing experience. The class covers basic climbing techniques including knot tying, belaying, rappelling, top rope anchor systems, movement techniques, and safety procedures. The cost of the workshop is $130 for ISU students, $156 for ISU affiliate and $182 for the community members. Deadline to sign up is June 16.
• June 25-28 “Beginning Kayak Workshop”
The beginning kayak workshop is a concentrated course to help individuals develop the knowledge and skills necessary to run easy whitewater rivers in a kayak. It is a solid introductory course for the beginner and a good refresher for the individual who already has some kayaking experience. The cost of the workshop is $185 for ISU students, $222 for ISU affiliate is and $259 for the community members. Deadline to sign up is June 24.
• Thursday, July 9-12 “Intermediate/Advanced Kayak Workshop”
The workshop offers a variety of river options that allows participants to challenge themselves which help to fine tune those kayak skills. Skills covered include surfing, catching those small eddies, ferrying and river reading will become automatic and comfortable. $225 for ISU students, $270 for ISU affiliate and $315 for the community members. Deadline to sign up is July 8.
All workshops have limited enrollments ISU Students have first priority and other participants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
All of the listed workshops are available for ISU academic credit. Registration for classes for credit should be done with the ISU registrar.
