Idaho State University-Meridian designates scholarship to commemorate Ada County sesquicentennial

An Ada County student attending the Idaho State University-Meridian Health Science Center next fall will receive a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the county’s 150th anniversary.

Ada County commissioners and Meridian campus leaders announced the scholarship at the county’s sesquicentennial celebration in Downtown Boise on Dec. 16.

ISU-Meridian is providing one-time funds for the scholarship. All students may apply, but preference will be given to a student studying paramedic science, said Ali Crane, director of enrollment services. Application details will be announced at a later date.

The scholarship celebrates ISU-Meridian’s partnership with Ada County on numerous initiatives including paramedic science and free community health screenings for underserved adults.

In 2011, ISU-Meridian partnered with Ada County Paramedics to offer the state’s only associate degree in paramedic science.

“With the teaching expertise of professional paramedics and the clinical opportunities afforded by Ada County Paramedics, this program is providing outstanding education for future Idaho paramedics,” said ISU-Meridian Associate Vice President Bessie Katsilometes.

Since 2010, ISU-Meridian and Ada County have served more than 750 uninsured adults through a community health screening program that provides free flu shots, basic medical and dental exams, and referrals for additional care. Meridian health science students and faculty administer the screening services.
