The 14th annual Take Back the Night March and Rally will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, outside the Family Services Alliance main office in Pocatello on 355 S. Arthur Ave.

The Pocatello march and rally is sponsored by the Anderson Gender Resource Center at Idaho State University, in close collaboration with Family Services Alliance, Old Town Pocatello Art Walk, and Bannock County Sexual and Domestic Violence Task Force.

Once again, local businesses and organizations have shown their support and generously donated to the event. Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad will speak, along with other representatives. There will be free T-shirts, food, great raffle prizes, music and more as people from throughout our community have united to march in support of survivors of sexual assault and violence, while taking a stand for a safer city of Pocatello.

The history of Take Back the Night goes back to 1976 and Belgium. The event has since grown tremendously to become a worldwide manifestation and recognition of the fight against sexual assault and violence.

An estimated one in six women and one in 11 men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime, according to organizers. Take Back the Night is a chance speak up, show support and help raise awareness.

The event is free and open to all.

For further information, contact the Anderson Gender Resource Center intern Jessica Milford at 208-697-3228 or Aasa Burlin, assistant director of the center, at 208-282-6061.
