Idaho State University Library features art show by David Combs through March; artist reception set March 7

The Idaho State University Eli M. Oboler Library is presenting the work of Idaho Falls artist David L. Combs through March, and will host an artist reception for him on March 7.

The public reception will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 7 in the Oboler Library Art Gallery.  

Combs began drawing and painting at an early age and has maintained a keen personal and professional interest in the arts.  He earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Idaho in 1982 and followed it with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1984. 

He works for the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) where he has won multiple graphic design and illustration awards from the Society of Technical Communications (STC), including two Best of Shows, and six at the international level.  He was honored by INL as the Technician of the Year in 2004.

The paintings in this show are primarily his private work, consisting chiefly of watercolor landscapes of the Norwegian coast and local mountain scenery garnered from years of hiking.  He cites his greatest influences as the works of Charles Reid, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Frederic Edwin Church and the Hudson River School painters.

Also included in this show is a group of never-before-exhibited caricatures, which for the most part were created as gifts for his retiring colleagues.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and may be viewed during regular library hours now through the end of March.
