Idaho State University’s JoAnn Gurenlian inducted president of International Federation of Dental Hygienists

Idaho State University's JoAnn Gurenlian, professor and graduate program director for dental hygiene, will be installed as the president of the International Federation of Dental Hygienists at Cape Town, South Africa in August.

"It is truly a pleasure and a great honor to be selected to represent the IFDH and to support the mission of the association over the next three years," Gurenlian said. "Connecting dental hygienists around the globe, sharing insights, and working together to improve the oral health of the public will be both enlightening and rewarding."

The International Federation of Dental Hygienists (IFDH) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organization that attempts to unite dental hygienists from around the world in their common goal of promoting oral health.  This organization was established in 1986 to:

• Safeguard and defend the interests of the profession of dental hygiene, represent and advance the profession of dental hygiene.           

• Promote professional alliances with its association members as well as with other associations, federations, and organizations whose objectives are similar.

• Promote and coordinate the exchange of knowledge and information about the profession, its education, and its practice.

• Promote access to quality preventive oral health services.           

• Increase public awareness that oral disease can be prevented through proven regimens.

• Provide a forum for the understanding and discussion of issues pertaining to dental hygiene.
