Idaho State University Department of Art to host young people’s Saturday art program

Idaho State University's Department of Art Master of Fine Arts degree graduate students will teach an eight-week Saturday art class for children from Sept. 14 to Nov. 9. The class will be held in the ISU Fine Arts Building, Room 303.

Students will learn a variety of art techniques across a number of mediums, including ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. The experience will focus on teaching children to express their individual creativity in an art classroom setting.

Classes for children ages 7 to 9 will be from 9 to 10 a.m. The course fee will be $100. For children ages 10 to 14, the sessions will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon and will cost $110.

The cost of tuition includes smocks for each child. Students are encouraged to wear casual clothing to fully participate in lessons without worry about messes. Although some sharp tools will be used, safety will be a top priority.

Enrollment can be reserved by emailing clevjoan@isu.edu. Payment by cash or check must be paid on the day of registration, Sept. 14. Enrollment will be open for 30 minutes prior to the start of class that day.

Class space is limited to 15 students ages 7 to 9 and 18 students ages 10-14. Registration will be completed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The class is facilitated by Joanna Cleveland, ISU painting and drawing instructor, and Lori McPherson, current MFA student.
