Idaho State Alumni Association Board of Directors welcomes seven new members and new board president

The Idaho State University Alumni Association Board of Directors welcomed seven new directors at their annual Homecoming meeting in October.

New members are Ryan J. Sargent, Pocatello; Dustin Mortimer, Boise;
Joshua C. Whitworth, Boise; Jamie L. Bell, Pocatello; Gregory N. Bosen, Idaho Falls; Craig D. Hobdey, Gooding; and Debbie L. Thompson, Pocatello.

Also installed is new board president, Larry Satterwhite, Boise.

The president’s term is two years and board members terms are four years.

• New Alumni Board President, Larry W. Satterwhite – Originally from Twin Falls, Satterwhite and his wife Jan currently reside in Boise. Satterwhite received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from ISU in 1970. At commencement, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Air Defense Artillery. His 23 years of military service included assignments in Germany, Korea and stateside postings. He retired from the military in 1993.

A lifelong learner, in addition to his degree from ISU, Larry has a master’s degree in vocational counseling from Sul Ross State University and additional post-graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, University of Idaho and Boise State University. He retired for the second time in 2009 following his tenure with a high-tech corporation in Seattle where he directed corporate college recruiting, internship and immigration programs. Satterwhite and his two brothers, Neil (deceased) and Bob, all alumni of Idaho State University, established the Frances Satterwhite Memorial Endowment in the College of Education in memory of their mother.

Larry has been active in the Alumni Association, having served four years on the board of directors and several committees, spearheading the Special Events Committee that coordinates the annual Steve Eaton Alumni Benefit Concert in Boise each summer. Larry and Jan have two children, daughter Rachel who lives in Boise, and son Benjamin who is completing his master’s degree at ISU in Applied Physics.

• Ryan J. Sargent – Sargent serves as Power County’s deputy prosecutor and a practicing attorney in American Falls. Sargent graduated from ISU in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in political science. While at ISU, Sargent served as Associated Students of ISU president, was a student lobbyist, an ISU Ambassador, Peer Advisor and a member of Phi Sigma Alpha. Following his graduation from ISU, Sargent attended law school at the University of Idaho. He continued to serve in leadership positions while at the University of Idaho and graduated with his Juris Doctor in 2012. Sargent is married to Brandi Reeder Sargent and they reside in Pocatello.

• Dustin D. Mortimer – Originally from Idaho Falls, Mortimer currently resides in Boise, Idaho where he is an examiner/investigator with the Idaho Department of Finance. Mortimer obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in management from ISU in 2010 and his Master of Business Administration degree from ISU in 2011. While a student at ISU, Mortimer was active in many organizations. He was Turner Hall president, served as ASISU vice-president, Idaho Falls, Idaho Falls Veterans Club president and was instrumental in the establishment of the Veteran’s Sanctuary at ISU. He served in the U.S. Army from 2001 to 2006.

• Joshua C. Whitworth – A native of Mackay, Whitworth has been a part of ISU since childhood. His father, Herb Whitworth is an ISU graduate as is his grandfather, Chick Sanford. Joshua played football at ISU and had a storied career. He was a team captain and member of the 2002 Big Sky Conference champions, was recognized as a College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete and the NCAA Leadership Conference. Whitworth was vice-president of the Student Athlete Advisory Council and organized community awareness and service activities for ISU athletes. Whitworth graduated from ISU with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing in 2004. Whitworth was a recruitment specialist for ISU in the Treasure Valley and was formerly the executive director of the Idaho Republican Party. Whitworth and his wife Kara, also an ISU alumna, live in Boise where Whitworth is with the Office of the Idaho State Controller.

• Jamie L. Bell – Bell obtained her Associate of Applied Science, physical therapy assistant from Idaho State University in 1999. While a student, Bell was a member of the Women’s Track and Field team and participated in intramural volleyball, basketball and flag football. Jamie and her husband Troy, also an ISU alumnus, and their family reside in Pocatello. They are members of the Bengal Athletic Boosters and are sponsors for athletics teams including cheerleading, football, basketball and the Cage Club. They are sponsors for the recruitment program for ISU Physical Therapist Assistant and Occupational Therapy programs. Jamie and Troy own Quinn Meadows Rehabilitation and Care Center, Meadowland Therapy and Yo Crazy Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt in Pocatello.

• Gregory N. Bosen – Bosen graduated from ISU in 2005 with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in computer information systems. Following graduation, he was a system analyst with the Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls. Since 2006 he has been affiliated with North Wind, Inc. serving as senior software system analyst and now in his current position as software development manager.

Even as a student, Bosen was actively involved in the B.P.O.E Elks Lodge and continues his leadership with the Elks as District Deputy Grand Exalter Ruler, Idaho East District and is Past Exalter Ruler in Pocatello Elks. Bosen is a certified National Outdoor Leadership School Wilderness First Responder and a member of the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue. He serves as the chairman of the ISU College of Technology- Computer Software Development Technology Advisory Board. His wife Sera is also an alumna of Idaho State University. Greg and Sera reside in Idaho Falls.

• Craig D. Hobdey – Originally from Gooding, Hobdey attended ISU and graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from the College of Business in 1975. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho in 1984. While at ISU, Hobdey was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Following his graduation from the University of Idaho Law School, Hobdey joined his father in his law practice of Hobdey and Hobdey in Gooding and maintains that practice today. Hobdey is a member, past president and current member of the board of directors of the Rotary Club of Gooding. Other affiliations that Hobdey continues are his 16th year on the local U.S. Selective Service Board, a member and current treasurer of Elks Lodge #1735. He is a member of the Idaho Water Users Hall of Fame. Hobdey has two grown daughters.

• Deb Thompson – After 32 years of dedicated service to the ISU College of Technology, Thompson retired as associate dean in 2009. She served in several positions including counselor, director of student services, interim associate dean, associate dean and interim dean. Originally from Twin Falls.

Thompson chose to follow her brother, who was playing football, to ISU. As a student she was a member of the women’s swim team, a member of Gamma Phi Beta and Scotch Guard. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1974 and a master’s in counseling in 1976. Thompson has been active for more than 25 years in the Bengal Athletic Boosters serving as auction chair and as president in 2010. She is active in the ISU Women’s Club and the Holiday Fair. She has served as a caller, team captain, co-chair and chairman of the I Love ISU Scholarship campaign. Thompson has volunteered with Special Olympics, Pocatello Animal Shelter, Simplot Games and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. She is a 1989 graduate of Leadership Pocatello and in 2005 received the ISU Distinguished Service Award.
