Six artists to present work at Idaho State University Senior Art Exhibit running March 5-16

This year's Idaho State University Bachelor of Art and Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Exhibition running March 5-16 will feature six artists: Nettie McMichael, Tracy Turner, Suzanne Hunsaker, Traci Morgan, Careen Uehling and Lorri Smith-Chavez.

The opening reception will be Monday, March 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John B. Davis Gallery of the Fine Arts Building.

Pocatello native McMichael is scheduled to graduate this May with her Bachelor of Arts degree in art and pre-architecture. Her preferred artistic media are metals, handmade paper and acrylic paint. McMichael uses her artwork to "express her love of nature."

Turner is a double major scheduled to graduate with Bachelors of Arts degrees in both art and pre-architecture, and mass communication with a visual communication emphasis. She has also earned a minor in art history. Turner came to Pocatello in 2005 after growing up in California and earning an associate degree from American River College. Her primary media include artist-made paper, collage, assemblage and mixed media.

Hunsaker, a 2006 graduate of Hillcrest High School in Ammon, will graduate from ISU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art and pre-architecture. Hunsaker said she enjoys working with metals, jewelry and weaving.

Blackfoot native Morgan will complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art and pre-architecture, along with a business minor. Morgan enjoys painting with acrylic, although she recently received a scholarship through the Idaho Watercolor Society. In the past year, Morgan’s work has also been displayed at the ISU Oboler Library and the Portneuf Valley Brewing.

Born and raised in the Pocatello area, Uehling plans to graduate this May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and pre-architecture. Though she likes to work in clay and mixed media sculpture, Uehling's favorite medium is acrylic on canvas.

After spending time studying at College of Southern Idaho and working for her family business and Idaho National Laboratory , Smith-Chavez came to ISU when a car accident left her injured. This May, Smith is scheduled to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art and pre-architecture. She intends to continue her education and earn a degree in secondary education. Her preferred medium is chalk pastel.
