Screening of film “Energy on Trial,” panel discussion on nuclear energy featuring INL’s Grossenbacher set April 17 at Idaho State University

A screening of the film "Energy on Trial" and a panel discussion on nuclear energy will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the Idaho State University Pond Student Union Salmon River Room.

The screening is the third installment of "The Energy Debate," a four-part film series on the future of energy in America. The event is sponsored by Idaho State University’s Energy Systems and Technology Education Center (ESTEC), the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and Partners for Prosperity.

Following the showing, a panel discussion will take place on nuclear energy and the state of Fukushima one year after the natural disasters in Japan. John Grossenbacher, president and laboratory director of INL, will participate in the discussion, which features four panelists.

Grossenbacher plans to address the impacts of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant accident a year after the disaster, the recent licensing of two new nuclear facilities in Georgia and South Carolina and Governor Otter's Leadership in Nuclear Energy (LINE) Commission. He was interviewed for "Energy on Trial" in 2010 and is featured in the film.

Other panelists are Kathy McCarthy and Kemal Pasamehmetoglu from INL and Lawrence Beaty from ESTEC.

This event is part of a series of panels and film showings that INL and ESTEC have hosted to get people thinking and asking questions about energy. It is free and open to the public. Reporters will have a chance to watch the film and interview presenters.
