ISU public health students win scholarships; program director honored for outstanding service

The Idaho Public Health Association awarded $400 scholarships to two Idaho State University students and presented assistant professor Galen Louis with its 2012 President's Award during the IPHA's annual meeting and awards reception Nov. 13 at Boise State University.
Tina Ghirarduzzi and Lori Peck, second-year students in the Master of Public Health Program in Pocatello, submitted 500-word essays describing their goals and how they contribute to public health. Ghirarduzzi says she'll apply the scholarship money toward tuition and books.
Louis, the director of ISU's MPH Program, was honored for outstanding service in public health.
"It was a surprise," said Louis, who is based at the ISU-Meridian Health Science Center. "It's nice to be recognized by your peers."
Established in 1952, the IPHA is the oldest nonprofit organization representing public, private and consumer health interests in Idaho.
